Hot topic, hijab.
Recently everyone seems to focus on the Islamic dress code, the hijab. About whether is must be worn or not, if yes how must it be worn?
Everyone seems to have different opinions and comments regarding to this.
Without doubt the hijab is essential in Islam, that’s why I labeled it with the Islamic dress code. It’s the symbol of modesty, the flag of Islam.
Yet we as Muslims in the west do face a lot of struggles when it comes to representing our religion in public.
There are a lot of misconception regarding to Islam, specially after the event of 9/11. Muslims are seen as terrorists& oppressors of freedom, everything evil is been linked with Islam.
Extra security producers are taken at the airport, being rejected for different jobs because you’re wearing a hijab.
imaging that we in some countries must pay taxes for wearing a hijab, that we can’t enter public places or schools with a hijab on. Who is been an oppressor? and who is the oppressed?
Yet not all of us had to face those struggles and factors, AlhamdouAllah. The struggle does divers from person to person, everyone has experienced hijab in different way. Some come out of this struggle stronger, and others have become weaker.
Yet this does not justify the way hijab is been worn by some sisters (me included). Today there’s too much fashion involved in hijab, what makes modesty become irrelevant.
Another thing we should be aware of that modesty is not only measured by the way dress but also the way we behave.
I would like to ask from my brothers and sisters to not judge about each other, none of us is in the position to do so. Giving advice, or giving the right example are the ways we should help each other to become a more modest community. To hold on our Islamic norms and values.
